Baylor Medical Center at Uptown is fully accredited by The Joint Commission. (JC)

The JC evaluates and accredits more than 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. An independent, not-for-profit organization, JC is the nation’s pre-eminent standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. Since 1951 JC has maintained standards that focus on improving the quality and safety of the care health care organizations provide. The JC's comprehensive accreditation process evaluates an organization’s compliance with these standards and other requirements.

JC accreditation is recognized internationally as a symbol of quality and reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting performance standards. To earn and maintain the JC’s Gold Seal of Approval, an organization undergoes an unannounced, on-site survey by a JC survey team at least every three years.

Baylor Medical Center at Uptown provides notices to the public that when an individual has any concerns about patient care and safety in the hospital, that the hospital has not satisfactorily addressed, he or she is encouraged to contact the hospital’s management. If the concerns are not satisfactorily resolved through Mary Shiels Hospital, the individual is encouraged by the hospital to contact the Joint Commission.
